October to April brings cool, clear sailing weather: summer adds heat, downpours and occasional typhoon reshuffles, always with dramatic skies. Hanoi is 2.5 hours away by highway: cruises include transfers. Book cabins with a private balcony if the budget stretches: morning coffee alone above that water is the whole postcard.
